The accommodation and service were great. The directions said cross bridge and go straight keeping Canal on right.
When you cross the bridge it is important to turn right at the first opportunity keeping the Grand Canal on your right. Once we found the hotel everything made sense.
The breakfast was very well presented but we would have liked to be invited to have a second bun or croissant as the hotel's standard offering is not adequate.
We opted to spend an additional three nights in Venice staying in more modest accommodation and buying our breakfasts.
We loved our time in Venice very much!

The receptionist was fairly polite but could do with learning to smile a little! However, he was polite and his english was good. ... The picture of the fish market on the website was confusing as we thought it represented the outside of the hotel and therefore believed the hotel was looking directly onto the canal. When I emailed to ask if we could have a room with a view of the canal it was explained that it was not possible but that all rooms had balconies - this was not the case with our room! However, we were happy with the interior of the room and very happy with the bathroom. A small detail that I should mention is the lack of any butter at breakfast and a slightly more proactive service ie: having finished our bread rolls with jam (no butter) we waited a few minuites for our receptionist/waiter to return and needed to ask if any coffee was available. ... Although the receptionist was kind enough to allow us to leave our luggage for a few hours after we checked out we were a little concerned about them being left in the passage way near the door. Perhaps it would be safer if they were locked away or put out of site. ... Great central location and quiet for sleeping. Good bedrooms but lacking in much personal service and a little eerie! Perhaps it was the time of year but it felt as though we were the only guests staying in the hotel.

Everything was perfect - the rooms, employees...
The coffees were great, but after a few days of white bread for breakfast, my stomach was quite unhappy. (Add some brown bread or something with grains and it would be better.)
Thanks, Lee ... Lovely, uncrowded area, but close to key points of transportation and a short walking distance to everywhere. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated and the staff are very helpful. It was also nice at night to close up the room (so that it was quiet) and put the AC on low.

When I arrived to the hotel I was told that I can stay one night in the hotel, then I have to move to another hotel for one night and after that I can come back for two nights. Very strange, because I had a voucher for four nights at the same hotel. ... The receptionist could not find my voucher. He did not know how much I had to pay. I payd less than stated in voucher. I received discount, because I had this one night in another hotel, where the bathroom was outside my room. This was agreed by the receptionist of this other hotel. For the other three nights I payed as stated in my voucher. ... In spite of this episode that I had to move to another hotel, I would describe the hotel very romantic. The rooms were very nicely furnished.

We arrived late in the evening ... We was allowed to keep our baggage in the hotel after check-out. This was nice, since our departure was in the afternoon. ... It is a very central hotel with very nice rooms. We will absolutely recommend it!

Our 6 night stay at the Alloggi Al Mercante could not have been better. The location was ideal, and value for money it really mae our holiday. The hotel manager should be congratulaged for the general standard of service and quality of the rooms which was excellent. I have already recommended this Locanda to my friends for all of the above reasons, and do not hesitate it recommending it to any of your users.

Hotel was very easy to find. We had not anticipated how many stairs we had to carry our heavy cases over the Rialto Bridge, on leaving, we found it easier to go to the ferry stop nearer the Piazole Roma. ... We had a very good stay and would recommend this hotel to friends. We would use this hotel again.
It would be useful if drinking glasses were available in the bedrooms. ... This was an attractive, clean hotel. The bathroom was of a good standard and the room was exceptionally attractive. The hotel was very convenient to the tourist areas.

We had a wonderful couple of days. Mercante is a great place to stay if you haven't got a huge budget. Just don't expect a huge breakfast.

We did not know that we would have to climb 43 stairs to our room (no elevator) ... The only difficulty was the stairs and one morning the coffee machine did not work. The room was beautiful and very clean with a great bathroom. Good location once we found it. ... No elevator and lots of stairs. As above ... Beautiful room with some difficulty finding it and lots of climbing. Not for everyone.

We found the Hotel after searching other Streets with the same name. That was confusing but not their fault ... We havr the suite on two levels with alounge on the loweer floor, it was very impressively decorated and clean. My accompanying part had the other room on that floor, which was also clean and maintained to a high standard. We had the flor all to our selves which was good, the only draw back was we were on the third floor and the steps were very steep, but this wouldn't put us off from going again, however an elderly couple may have found a difficulty with this. ... We checked out the day before, because of early flights, we weren't offered breakfast for the next morning, which could have been left out. ... The steep stairs to the third floor. Minimal breakfast, had to ask for hot drinks, they weren't offered. ... Well situated, good price for location. Lovely and clean, breakfast not much.

We did not recieve the tour that was advertised on the special offer voucher. There were a lot of steep stairs in the hotel and no lift, we think this should be highlighted in the details as it would mean the hotel would be totally unsuitable for the elderly or anyone with a disability. The complimentary bath soap etc was not replaced when it was used, neither were the towels during our stay. The breakfast was very sparse. ... We were allowed to leave our luggage at the hotel after check out until we were ready to get our connection to the airport but it was left unsecure, in the corridor where any one of the other guests could have has access to it. ... Should state about the stairs and unsuitability for the elderly or disabled. ... Very clean hotel in a good position. Get in training for the stairs and take enough money to buy breakfast outside the hotel.

The website stated that internet service was available, however service is only turned on after paying a fee. That would have been good to know ahead of time although it was not really a problem.
Also, except for checkout and checkin, we rarely saw any staff on duty. We really didn't need them but thought it a bit strange that no one was ever around. Still, the facility, rooms, bathrooms, etc were VERY nice and we would stay there again. ... A bit hard to find, as are most places in Venice, but worth finding.

We sent, according to the instructions, our time of arrival as 12 noon. When we arrived no one showed until the door posted time of 2 pm. A big bad start. Cell phone calls and door knocks resulted in nothing. The receptionists said he was in the building, but for some reason did not hear us. If you are expecting someone- be avail. ... The steps are arduous with bags. A room number of 100 is three flights of winding narrow stairs. ... A very nice room for the money - conveniently located. Nice bathrooms, with adequate breakfast. Only one staff person, puts pressure on him and the guests, but I can understand the dilemma.

The direction to reach the hotel where somewhat misleading, but at the end all was OK once I called for better instructions. ... ON the last day there was no breakfast served, but we paid (no discount). Aircondintioning systems not always working. Hotel very clean and functional, a bit expensive for a double room. ... Nice, not the normal hotel but more of a residence. I would repeat the experience again with pleasure now that I know the details.

On arrival we found a notice on the locked front door to ring a number. We did not have a phone on us and had to enlist the help of a local shop. This was very annoying and inconvenient. ... The brreakfast was very poor indeed, even by continental standards. A limp croissant and a cup of slightly warm coffee. ... Conveniently situated, clean and comfortable room, lots of stairs - no lift - we were on the top floor and are both over 65. No mention was made of the stairs on the website. Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired.

Overall I was very happy with this place. The only complaint I have is that a friend of mine tried to call me (she called the front desk) several times and each time, the person on duty was unable to transfer the call to my room. They apologized profusely, but I found it very odd that the staff was not competent enough to transfer the call! ... See above about phone calls not being able to be transferred. ... I would recommend it, but would certainly warn about the phone problem.

Some one let us in and came to the desk when we rang the bell outside. However, other guests came at other times when we happened to be downstairs in the lobby and there was no one to be found to get them into their rooms. Friends of ours also stayed at the hotel and when she called the number left on the front door, the worker said he was out eating and would be there later to check her in. Horrible reception after traveling a long ways and it was 10 PM at night! ... Room was great. Very spacious and comfortable. The staff is very difficult to track down if you need anything---like we had no pillow cases on the bed the first night.

The breakfast was not too good. They just gave one pc of bread and orange juice. No cereals or fruits or anything else. This is quite unlike other places that we stayed. Everywhere the breakfast was good with lot of options, except for Alloggi Al Mercante. When I asked for another pc of bread, the staff gave me a dirty look. ... Fairly good, decent place. Don't expect a breakfast!

The Alloggi Al Mercante doesn,t have a staffed reception so one rings and someone appears to let you in and address the reservation. That's fine given the low price ... The room was small and the lighting a little poor for reading. But it was a cheap price. ... Adequate cheap accommodation in an area that proves to be both well located and quite interesting both during the day and in the evening. Seems very safe. Easy walk to Vaporetto. Hard to find unless one has very clear directions. My room was a little cramped and a little dark at night. At 68Euro a night it met my expectations.
