Being in Venice this hotel could have been difficult to find, but the directions were great. ... This very small hotel is a perfect spot to stay during your visit to Venice. The location is great and the price very reasonable. The hotel is part of an old palace and the rooms are huge (by Italian standards!) The couple that owns it are very friendly and helpful. ... Our departure from Venice wasn't until mid afternoon so we were allowed to leave our luggage at the desk after check out..A great help! ... Beautiful, small hotel with very friendly and helpful owners.

We were greeted by a nice young lady named Jenny ('Jaaahny'). I asked to see the room before we signed anything, and she seemed very happy to do so (I think she was quite proud of the place). The outside of the building wasn't pretty, but was very typical of what you see there. I told my husband, after seeing the room, 'I'm glad they put their money into the inside instead of the outside of the place. It shows!' ... Very lovely little place. The room was beautiful, with the most comfortable bed of any during our trip to Italy. Our window overlooked the canal, where the singing gondoliers passed by in the late afternoon. It was like a fairytale. The bathroom was quite nice, with a heated towel rack, and a larger shower than we'd had elsewhere. Very nice dinig area right outside our room, where breakfast was served (included) each morning by a very sweet yound woman who took excellent care of our needs. All of the staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly, yet never intrusive. We were a 5-minute walk from San Marcos and the Doges' Palace, many wonderful tiny little shops, restaurants, gelateries, 2 internet points (where they can also download your digital photos to a CD), evening violin concertos in an old church filled with art, as well as 2 little grocery stores where you could pick up cheese, wine, bread, and other good tidbits to picnic on. I can't say enough nice things about this place. I'd go back right now if I could. ... We had to leave on an early train the next morning, and stopped in the lobby to pay our bill before going to a concert the night before. It was supposed to be staffed until 8 PM, but no one was there at 6:45 PM (this was the only night that happened). There was a note on the desk which said that if you needed anything, please contact _________ hotel, then gave directions and a phone number. We passed the hotel on our way to the concert, and the young man we had seen at our desk earlier that day was readily available at that hotel desk. No problem paying the bill, just a little inconvenient and unexpected. ... You sometimes wonder when the web pictures were taken at a hotel, because it's nothing like the pictures (much worse, many times). But this place was represented very accurately. ... The perfect place to stay in Venice, if you can't afford, or don't want to pay the big bucks, for a ritzy hotel.

Informed on arrival that there was 'a problem with the room' and we were to be placed in the nearby Hotel Do Pozzi. Obviously a case of overbooking. The Hotel Do Pozzi further informed us that we were not in th Hotel, but in an annexe. Room was good, but there was no air conditioning (one of our main criteria) as it was not going to switched on until June, thus resulting in having to open windows and get attacked by mosquitoes! Although things turned out ok, we were very disappointed at being moved (and having no air-con) as I had spent hours researching suitable hotels. Having read of others experiencing similar problems, it seems that a 'guaranteed booking' is anything but! Yes, I would recommend the Do Pozzi, staff good, rooms good, breakfast very good. ... Cannot comment on the Locanda Barbarigo as I never got past the reception. ... If booking for less than a week, be prepared to be moved to another hotel! ... Do Pozzi was very clean, spacious room, good location and very adequate breakfast.

Locanda Barbarigo is very centrally located to St. Mark's Square. It is a very quiet and beautiful locanda. Each room is tastfully decorated in the Venetian style. The batrooms are big with towel warmers and a lovely shower. I highly reccommend this place.

We were met by a very friendly member of the staff who was waiting for us. ... Most important, your website says they accept cash or credit cards and this is not the case as I was informed upon my arrival. I informed them that I would have to look for another hotel in the morning as I needed to use a credit card and by the next morning the staff had solved the problem and we did not have to move. ... Great location, comfortable and large rooms, quiet, very friendly staff, reasonably priced.

We were very pleased with our stay at Locanda Barbarigo and would stay there again when visiting Venice. We especially enjoyed the Smerlda room as it overlooked the lagoonand the gondolas that passed were beautiful to watch and hear their singing. The breakfast was very good. Either I need to improve my Italian speaking or the front desk could be more helpful in understanding our English. Many thanks for a beautiful B and B. Denis & Sue Del Ponte ... Better directions from the Vaparetto or water taxi. We went across the upper steps over that bridge several times before we realized that we should cross the lower bridge and then turn left along the canal to the front entrance. ... Elegant, quiet, excellant location and very nice view of the small canal from our room.

It was not stated on the website or in our communication with the hotel that if you arrived after 8pm, that you did not check in at the Locanda Barbarigo but had to check in at the hotel around the corner. We only found this out when I e-mailed the hotel the week before our holiday to find out what was the best way to get to the hotel from the airport at 10.30pm. It was in the reply that we were informed of the late check-in procedure. This is not a complaint as the hotel was brilliant, just a suggestion to improve the quality of information provided to guests. ... The property was described very well on the web site & the pictures provided were true. It was a lovely hotel & the staff were very nice. The only thing that I would say is that there was not a kettle in the room & you know us English people, we like our cups of tea. But I do know that this is the norm in hotels on the continent. ... It did say on the voucher that you received a discount if you paid by cash but we did not receive this. But I still think the hotel was good value. ... As I stated earlier, just the late check-in procedure. ... Beautiful, quiet, good value for the location, easy to find, central, friendly.

VERY VERY VERY POOR BREAKFAST.
lOCANDA BARBARIGO SHOULD BE ADVERTISED AS A SMALL BED AND BREAKFAST RATHER THAN A HOTEL BUT OFFERS A PLEASANT STAY. ... A PLEASANT BED AND BREAKFAST WITH A LOT OF CHARACTER IN A VERY GOOD LOCATION WITH CLEAN BUT EXTREMELY SMALL ROOMS AND RUN BY FRIENDLY BUT NOT TERRIBLY WARM STAFF.

No directions to the hotel from the Alilaguna dropoff - just a San Marco address. As a result, we wandered around Saint Mark's Square with our luggage for a bit, trying to find someone who could give us directions. ... The 'canal view' was less than I had expected. From our room (Room #1), I had to stand on my tiptoes and crane my neck and could then see a peek of the canal.
The room was so much bigger than I expected it to be. It had soooo much character. Very delicious breakfast each morning, and they even prepared it early for us on the morning we departed.
The 'double bed' was actually two single beds pushed together. For honeymooners, this was less than ideal. ... Having to pay in cash was a big drawback. We wished we had been able to pay with credit card as with most other hotels. We almost decided to cancel because of this issue. ... Directions on how to get there from the Alilaguna drop off at San Marco! ... Cozy, friendly, located on a quiet canal, within easy walking distance of both San Marco and Rialto areas, just a few steps from the vaporetto stop at Santa Maria del Giglio.

Locanda Barbarigo was tastefully decorated in typican venetian style. The bedroom was small but immaculately clean, as was the spacious bathroom (with wonderful high power shower). The rooms opened out onto a spectacular dining room decorated with chandeliers and beatiful gilded furniture, where breakfast was served. Perfectly located on a quiet, canalside, street, but only a short walk from St Marks square. Locanda Barbarigo was excellent value for money and I would definately return if I visited Venice again.

See below. ... It should be made clear that Locanda Barbarigo requires cash at checkout. One of our party had to catch a plane in the morning and tried to check out the night before (a Sunday) when he was informed that a credit card would not do. Buried in the confirmation was mention of paying by cash or Eurocard at checkout. But the Terms and Conditions state that a CREDIT CARD can be used for payment. The hotel was not equipped to accept a credit card payment, and this caused a real problem for us at checkout. We were able to loan our friend the needed cash for checkout, but had we not been with him he would have really been in a bind. It took us a couple of hours to get things straightened out. If we had not decided to settle up the night before, he probably would have missed his plane. ... Convenient location, nice sized rooms, more like a bed and breakfast than a hotel.

Everything worked out perfectly with this hotel. The room was immaculate and had a real Venetician feel with patterned gold cloth instead of wall paper on the walls and open beams on the ceiling. The shower was glassed off (we hate open showers) and everything looked fairly new. The breakfast was delicious, typical Italian with breads, ever so sweet croissants and tarts but best of all they made us expresso coffee on the spot. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The place is a little difficult to find down a small street but is well worth the search. It's very scenic with a canal running through the street, 10 minutes from Piazza San Marco and 15 metres from a water boat stop which can take you down the grand canal. The hotel really made our stay in Venice special.

The lack of staff at the hotel on arrival was inconvenient and unexpected. I would greatly prefer to be told only to arrive during certain hours than to come and find a sign on the door saying 'Be back soon' and have to wait outside for 20 minute before checking in. ... Our room was extremely spacious, but sparsely furnished. A comfortable chair and larger rugs would have gone a long way to making this elegant room more inviting. ... Accepts only cash or travelers checks for payment, which frankly seems absurd when charging over $200 a night. Would strongly prefer that they took credit cards, as I was very uncomfortable walking around with over $600 in Euros, even just from the ATM to the hotel. ... Lovely B&B, great location. Priced ok for the location (5 minute walk to Piazza San Marco). Very firm beds. Friendly staff. Desk staff speaks good English. Clean and safe.

Though the staff was VERY kind at Barbarigo, I was very disappointed with our room. It was large, and on a quiet piazza, but they did not tell us they were renovating the hotel and we had a mosquito infestation in our room, no hot water in the morning for showers and it was very hard to keep my 15 month old daughter away from all the debris and plaster on our balcony...we had to keep the door open as it was the only way to get any air in the room. They reduced my rate a little, but would not have stayed there if I knew it was being renovated, only due to the fact that I have a small child. I wish you would have posted this on your website. It would have helped. I am sadly disappointed that you did not reveal all the information regarding the hotel. ... yes, that they are renovating their hotel and your rooms may or may not have debris in or outside, the smell was pretty bad due to this. ... A good value for the money if you dont' mind staying in a hotel that is being renovated. Great location and the staff was VERY friendly and helpful. Our room was very large and the bathrooms somewhat clean. Not sure if I'd stay there again, but definatley after they have renovated.

The hotel does not take credit cards, why did you say they did? ... The hotel is over priced and they did not take credit cards, I would not recommend it to anyone. The breakfast is not acceptable or nice, the food is left out, overnight. ... once again, they do not take credit cards, and they did not care that the website print out and confirmation did state that they took it. I would not allow this hotel to post on your site. ... No credit cards and the breakfast is not fresh, food is left out. ... Dark, bad location and overpriced. Not too clean. Most of all, if the confirmation states that you take credit cards, you should take them. There is a reason the hotels do not take them, no of the better hotels do not take credit cards.

As I booked a superior room I expected a canal view instead I was overlooking another building.
The room was directly off the dining room.

Felt it was very overpriced for what we actually got. ... Stipulate that you want a canal view dont just think a superior room will provide this.

We were very disapponted as we did not even get a room at Locanda Barbarigo. The put us up at a hotel that was under constructio. There was plastic hanging from the ceiling to the floor in the entry way and leading to the stairs. Our room was ok, but one of the beds was very very small and hard, not suitable for an adult. There was a huge hole in the wall, over the bath!! Unsettling to say the least. What I found most reprehensible was that I spoke with the owner and wanted to leave and stay someplace else, but she insisted I had to stay there. It was a sad beginning to what should have been a delightful vacation. I have a lawyer reviewing my paperwork as nowhere on it did it state I could be placed in a sister hotel. Please resond ASAP.
Judy Zappala 8 Preservation Way Westford, MA 01886 978-392-2263 ... see above ... ok, but by then we were more than ready to leave
... You should state the name of this other facility
... Don't bother

Quite easy to find following directions from the website. Our room was not ready when we arrived ( before 2 pm) so we had to wait about an hour, but other than that - everything was fine. ... There was a sign on the door directing us to a different hotel in order to check in.
