 The Riva degli Schiavoni takes its name from the brave soldiers and valued allies of the Most Serene Republic who came from Slavonia, and this quayside was the heart of the thousand-year-long relationship between Venice and Istria. The Slavoni were the last to abandon Venice when the Republic fell in 1797. A plaque was set up near the hotel in 1997 to commemorate this Slav people’s great loyalty to Venice. |
