Locanda Gaffaro is wonderful. I put a very good review of it on a travel site (TripAdvisor.com) when I returned. Besides a very friendly staff and nice hotel (the courtyard is wonderful) the location is excellent. It's a picturesque neighborhood, close to everything.

The owner warned us the night before about a transportation strike that would take place the next day. He advised us to get to Piazzale Roma early in order to take a taxi. That was a great help.

The picture of the courtyard is out-of-date. It's now a lovely spot, a perfect place to sit in the afternoon and enjoy a glass of wine. I'd like to see a newer photo on your website.

I loved Locanda Gaffaro, we had a wonderful stay, everything from staff service to the room was perfect, I would gladly recommend it to anyone.
I wish them all the best and I will use them again when I go to Venice.

Not easy to find, just an little entrance-door and like most hotels only a very little shield with itīs name on it.

Nice hotel, fair conditions, better than it looked on the internet.
Not easy to find and no 'real' breakfast, but thatīs typical for Italy.

Unfortunately no extra toilet on the floor. But thatīs okay.

The clerk was very courteous and friendly; informed us our friends had already arrived, where to eat, helped us figure out how to make a long distance, internal Italy call from our room, etc.

Directions: Property is located on a very quiet courtyard just off the canal and is gated. You ring a button to gain access. There doesn't appear to be any sign that you are actually in the correct place. Go there anyway!

boutique hotel. Small, quaint, private. There is some small noise noticed from the room next to ours, but nothing to disturb us. Apparently the Gaffaro family is an old, well respected name in Venice.

The room was smaller than it appeared on the website, although we should have allowed for the effect of a wide-angle lens. Breakfast was always delivered to the room on time, but it was always exactly the same - a little variation over the six days would have been better. Mini-bar was well stocked and re-stocked and very reasonably priced.

Kindly agreed to keep our suitcases after checkout so we could collect them before catching the airport bus later in the day.

The hotel was clean and convenient (once we figured out how to get there). If there was a map from the bus station, then it would have been easier. We printed one from a web site but determining which bridge to go over was were we made the error. We took it as an adventure and finally did find our way, but it would have been easier to find it first off.

Since it was during the fall/winter time, their outside area was closed.
The only other suggestion was that our luggage was quite heavy (50 - 60 lbs.) and there was no elevator. It would have been nice if the desk clerk could have taken it up and down the steps. We managed but we have bruises to show for the work.

Generally, we would recommend this hotel to others. It was conveniently located once we figures out where it was situated.

EXCELLENT - FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING

VERY COMFORTABLE - AN EXCELLENT LOCATION AWAY FROM THE OBVIOUS TOURIST AREAS AND GIVING A REAL SENSE OF WHAT EVERYDAY VENICE (RATHER THAN TOURIST VENICE) IS LIKE - YET CLOSE ENOUGH TO ALL THE IMPORTANT SITES.

The hotel was easy to find from the bus station and an easy distance to travel with suitcase. after we checked out we were able to leave our suitcase there for a later pick up.

Had to leave bag there as the room was not ready. But they had taken the bag up the stairs to the room.

I stayed in an attic room. As I am small this was fine for me but could be a bit awkward for a taller person. The bathroom had plenty of room but height maybe a problem for taller people. There was a skylight, which gave adequate lighting but the room was a little bit dark for me.

There was a narrow staircase which was a bit difficult to take luggage down. No one helped to take the luggage down for me.

It was ok. The stairs going up to the hotel was a drag to lug the suitcase. I was a female travelling on my own. This would not be a problem for two pepole.

This is my review posted on tripadvisor.com: I could recommend anyone to choose that hotel nice atmosphere, excellent location (close to vaparetto and train station, but very quiet corner of Venice), good design of the rooms and furniture. Especially I should mention room #106 there is nice balcony where You could sit if weather allow...
The only minus is the very small breakfast You should buy some yogurts or pastries in advance.

hotel Locanda Gaffaro was beter than expected. It is very clean and friendly hotel. The staff are always helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The property is easily accessable and close to all sights to be seen. It is also locaded in very peaceful surroundings. I strongly recomend this property to all.

Although the owner said that the rooms would have a slanted ceiling, and it could be seen in the photos, it was still a little surprising to experience quite how slanted the ceiling was until we arrived. Perhaps the website should make it clearer by stating that it might be difficult for someone taller than 5'6' to maneuver easily through the room. My husband and father both hit their heads several times. Otherwise, the room was exceptionally clean, cozy, well-equipped, and the staff was excellent.

Great location for those who want to stay in the 'real' Venice, and away from all the touristed areas (St. Mark's, Rialto Bridge, etc.). We loved Dorsoduro (the neighborhood where the hotel is located) and would try to stay in that area again. Very easy to reach on foot from the train station/bus depot. The staff was exceedingly kind and welcoming. I would recommend this to someone who has been to Venice before or wants a quiet place to stay and doesn't mind walkiing 10-15 minutes to St. Mark's.

Our flight was late and we couldn't find the hotel. A phone call to the reception was all it took: 2 minutes later he collected us and also reserved a table at a restaurant for us as by that time there were few places still serving. Well done!

That it is off the beaten tourist tracks and thus in a very quiet area, which I appreciated. Also very good English is spoken there.

The hotel was difficult to find, (only 4 minutes from the bus station - could have used much clearer directions - walked around a bit) but once we did find it, we were very happy with our accommodations. The front desk was helpful with directions & typical sense of Italian humor! Room was clean; small breakfast in the a.m. was just enough to get us going. Would recommend this hotel to friends as well as stay there again.
