I would highly recommend friends to stay at Hotel San Sebastiano Garden when visiting Venice.

If the website simply said 'Take the No.2 vaporetto or a water taxi to the San Basilio stop, walk directly down the ramp and right in front of you you will find the street that turns into via San Sebastiano and leads to the hotel' or something similar, it would be helpful.

There is a great grocery store just around the corner, a postal drop, and plenty of dining options on the Zattere waterfront, or back toward the piazzas.

This is a perfect location - quiet and away from the crazy crowds, with all of the sights within easy reach when you are ready to go see them.
