A nice, quiet place 5 minute walk to Piazza San Marcos and 10 minutes to Rialto. Great location, near all kinds of stores. We've traveled extensively in Europe, staying at small local 3-star hotels. This was one of the best. Definitely will use Hotel San Gallo when we return to Venice.

I have visited Venice many times over the past 20 years. The San gallo is a lovely hotel with darling cozy rooms. The concierge was polite and helpful. I have already recomended The san Gallo and will come again.

That The san Gallo is very lovely and very cosy with a touch of elegance. ... For all the reasons stated above. ... Venice is a difficult and expensive city to stay in. The San Gallo is located in a conveinent spot and has everything a visiter could want at a reasonable price.

We stayed at the hotel in July and it was one of the few who could accomodate 4 people (incl. 2 boys 7 and 9) in one room. There was a average amount of space by European standards and the room was clean with plenty of towels. The A/C worked great! I would suggest that the hotel place their breakfast food in a different section of the patio to allow more people to get food at a time. There were several times where it took a while for the food platters to be replentished and for someone to offer coffee, etc. ... The location was extremely convenient to all major sites and was very charming and old world. One night it had rained so they served breakfast in the lobby which was fun. There is also a self-service laundry not too far that reception gave us directions to. I would have preferred to have free internet access since it doesn't cost the hotel anything extra for the line. I would definately stay here again.

I thought the hotel was much easier to find than was suggested by the directions. It was literally just off St Marks Square but one got the impression that the direction was more convaluted ... I think I got the impression that the rooms would be bigger, the air conditioning wasn't on for the week we were there which caused us to have to leave the windows open (it was very hot) and therefore to have a mosquito problem. There was satalite TV but not english speaking channels. The hotel bar was more a night porter service than a bar. ... Despite the above we had a splendid time. ... Air conditioning dates - Easier directions ... Small, no frills, friendly, relatively cheap, very convenient and pleasant

I didn't see any lift (elevator) and the reception is in the high first floor ... difficult if you have heavy luggage ... Good location as it id very near Piazza San Marco, quiet & peaceful, not very roomy though

The man at the reception was very, very nice, they gave us a map and circled the best ways to get to the hotel from various routes as well as places of interests. After this he carried our bags and showed us to our room, which was beautiful. ... Our experience was that the rooms were larger and nicer than shown on the website. We stayed in double with private bath and were very pleased. The air conditioning works extremely well, the mini bar is competitively priced and restocked every day, you get CNN (its nice to hear English every once in a while) and a safe. One of our favorite aspects of the hotel was the location. It is a two minute walk from St. Mark's square, on very quiet Campo with a small church and a nice side walk cafe. It has a more convenient location than most hotels, but without the crowds and noise that come with most of the St. Marks area. ... Hotel San Gallo is my new home in Venice. For the location, service, accomadation, and price, I believe it is one of the best deals in Venice.

There are rooms which are very small ... It's worth the price. A very central and quiet accomodation. The steep stairs are really not good for older people.

My son made the arrangements. Somehow, we neglected to see anything mentioning stairs. We were not prepared for the first 2 flights,to get to the reception area, then surprised to see a 3rd flight (not counting the 1 or 2 step ups/downs. Without being asked, the staff helped carry a huge suitcase for one of my (foot)injured sons (walking with a cane.) ... We only stayed one (planned) night. Kept windows opened (on a pleasant night)& son (who slept closest to the window)was attacked by mosquitoes. ... Need to check if stairs are mentioned. Clearer directions .....we found it by walking around, discovered another route. Have a link explaining the HIGH tides & how frequently they occur & how to possibly prepare (rubber boots, towels to wipe wet feet!) Warning not to open windows (at night) because of the mosquitoes.
... Excellent location, to St. Mark's Sq & Water Ferry. Staff is very helpful. Room was small (for 4 people), bathroom had a sitting tub, that had sloped sides, not easy to stand & shower. Pleasant, after the stair shock. Good breakfast buffet. Nice to have (free) internet access (which we needed to use).

staff was polite. property was clean. ... my only negative comment was that the breakfast was of poor quality. the same week we stayed in a hotel in florence which was no more expensive and the breakfast was much better. ... good accomodation, good location, nice people.

We mostly interacted with 'Tomazo' (not sure how its spelt). He was really friendly and helpful in terms of helping us with directions around town, restaurant recommendations, etc. ... Please don't recommend the restaurant 'La Gondola' to your guests. The restaurant has quite bad food and service. Additionally, they charged us for both cover charge and service charge, so we probably paid more than the normal price (even with discount included). Bad experience there. ... Fantastic in terms of location and good value for money

We did not enjoy our breakfast. We travelled for two weeks and this was definitely the poorest breakfast we had. We also were disappointed that it was not until 8 a.m. which was the latest we were able to get our breakfast. ... I would say the room was great, the location was great, but the breakfast was a little too late considering you might want to visit a site early. The breakfast was also very skimpy.

Easy to use. ... Compared to other cities in other countries very expensive for this standard. ... Very central to Skt. Marks Square and to all boat connections and gondolas, and within walking distance to most places to visit. But again, very, very expensive - double price or more for better facilities inother cities in other countries.

Too late for the bar to be open for a drink... we were directed to the minibars in our rooms... unfortunately the wine was awful! ... Comfortable rooms only marred by noisy plumbing and pigeons. ... Had to catch an early flight... hotel gave us early wake up call and we had breakfast early too.
