This hotel was well located, clean and in good condition. However, be warned that there is no elevator. ... The hotel was easy to find. Staff were helpful and answered our questions. The room was in very good condition and very clean too. We had a view of the cannal, which was nice, as we could see the gondolas. Another bonus of the hotel is that they have a room with Internet access. The only thing we did not really like was the breakfast, I thought it was poor. Only cereal, coffee and pastries.

Hotel very easy to find, though bit of astruggle up to first floor reception area with heavy luggage (glad we left our skiing gear - from first part of holiday - at the airport) ... The first room we were offered was on the second floor above the ground floor restaurant. There was a strong smell of cooking in the room as soon as the window was opened. We requested a different room, and were offered one on the third floor which was much better, though slightly smaller. Bed was comfortable, bathroom clean and spacious with good shower over full-size bath. Breakfast was much more extensive than we had expected from reports of breakfasts generally in Venice, with a good selection of cereals, pastries, fruits, bread and yoghurts, with tea, coffee and fruit juices. I would recommend it ... We were able to leave our luggage until later in the afternoon. ... Simple, clean, comfortable, good breakfast

All was perfect. The room was really good and offered me comfort after my flight. It was clean, clear and exactly what you hope to find to stay in Venicia. ... Very comfortable. The staff was very attentive to all my needs, which made my stay even more enjoyable. Exactly what I was looking for, for a short and pleasant stay. ... really, all was good ... no, I don't think so ... Friendly, welcoming and the right place to be if you want to visit Venicia

The hotel was very pleasant and had a very nice feel to it. Broadband internet much appreciated ... as were the excellent magazines to browse through.
Only comment was that the room was VERY small ... and it would be nice to have something savoury (cheese or ham) for breakfast. ... A little gem of a hotel ... amazingly peaceful given its central location.

Room was small but well decorated and in good condition. ... Centrally situated. Friendly staff. As a room was available they let us book in early and on check out allowed us to leave our luggage in the foyer until we were ready to leave Venice in the evening.

The receptionist at the check-in was not polite but we saw him at the arrival only. His colleagues which replaced him were more polite. ... We liked the hotel - we arrived from Paris via Rome after passing some time in both cities - the hotel in Venice was the best value for money compared to the accomodations we had in Paris and Rome. It supports the great impression we had from Venice. ... No ... No ... Very Good

The receptionist booked and reconfirmed a water taxi for our departure at 4.30am, and it was right on time! ... Well located and clean. Staff friendly and helpful. However, the continental breakfast is a little basic.
The website was excellent and I really appreciated the photos to help me choose the style and ambience of the hotel.

Very helpful and made regular contact with me prior to checking in to confirm cost and reservation. Very reassuring. ... Smallish rooms more than compensated for by excellent location and pleasant breakfast. Would definitely go back. ... Just that the restaurant downstairs is quite good also if you are interested in traditional Venecian food. ... Highly recommended and represents excellent value for money.

Natasha and all the front desk staff were wonderful. Upon arriving, I decided I would like a different type of room, and Natasha very politely and immediately accomodated my request. ... Everyone at the front desk was so friendly and helpful, taking extra time to look up restaurant locations and give us maps with directions, making reservations, and just being generally very friendly. ... Al Gambero was a great hotel for the price. The location was perfect for sightseeing--situated between St. Mark's and the Rialto, and just a very short walk from the vaporetto stop. The front desk staff were friendly and went out of their way to help us with any questions, the room was spacious by Venetian standards, very bright (but with shutters for nighttime), and although the bathroom was small (as is standard for most Italian hotels in the 3 to 4 star category), it was incredibly clean. If you are looking to stay in San Marco, near St. Mark's and/or the Rialto and much shopping, I cannot imagine a better choice than Al Gambero for the price.

Staff at the reception was very helpfull and thanks to them we were able to get the most out of Venice. That includes a trip to Murano and Burano islands, directions on getting around the city, and information on the Venetian Film Festival that was running at the time. ... Hotel offers free internet use to the guests. ... Warm and friendly

We have stayed at Al Gambero before, so we knew what to expect and the location of the hotel was why we booked here for us and our friends. We would definitely stay here again - there is nothing fancy about the hotel, but it is clean and the staff are friendly and helpful (as opposed to the San Moise where we stayed last time - the rooms are tiny and the staff unfriendly). There is also a mini-bar in the rooms, which is convenient for keeping your own beverages cool. Each room also has a safety deposit box. ... The rooms are quite pricey - but obviously you pay here for location, which makes it worth the while. ... The only slight negative aspect, is that there is no lift and you have to carry your luggage up several flights of stairs. ... Ideal location - very central. It is a bit pricey, but then the location is Venice is what you pay for. Our room was on a side canal and it was interesting to watch all the comings and goings from above. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend the hotel.

A charming hotel just a stone's throw away from the Rialto bridge, the public ferries on the Grand Canal and San Marco Square. The perfect location for Venice. The rooms were spotless. There's free internet access, a variety of choices for breakfast, and friendly reception staff. Ask for a room with a view of the canals and watch the gondolas go by. If you're arriving before the stated check in time, staff are happy to let you leave your baggage with them and even take it up to the room for you. Beware as there is no lift however! Well worth spending that little bit extra.

Unfortuantely we had a child confined to a wheelchair so found the stairs a bit of a nightmare. this was no fault to the hotel as I was not properly informed of the childs full disabilty. However the gentleman who assisted with our baggage was very helpful. The location of the hotel was fantastic. ... Very helpful and courteous ... The location of the hotel and the quality of the restaurant downstairs were not really addressed enough. Both of which should be as they were both an added advantage ... Quaint hotel in an ideal location. Romantic views of the canal from some of the back rooms.

Even the staff who did not speak english were very helpful and tried to communicate. We especially enjoyed the gentleman who helped us on the first day with our bags up to our 4th floor room. We were very tired from our long flight and he showed us everything in our hotel room and had a wonderful smile. Of all the hotels we stayed in while in Italy we enjoyed the free breakfast here the most. There was a variety of breads, cheese, and meats. Also having fresh fruit to grab on the go was great for that early morning out with no time to sit and enjoy a meal.

The staff knew who we were when we walked into the hotel. They were very friendly and accomdating. ... I wouldn't describe the rooms as spacious but compared to typical European rooms, they were adequate. ... I thought the price was a little high but compared to other hotels in Venice, it was in line. ... All of the staff spoke fluent English. The staff was very helpful when we asked them about things to do in the area. The rooms were clean and updated. Some of the rooms face a canal. The location of the hotel is very nice between the Grand Canal and San Marco Square. There was internet access available. ... I would say it is expensive but probably worth the money.

It says on the website that Singel Room Standard is with French Size Bed. As far as I know, that usually is 140 cm. My room was very small with a tiny 90 cm bed... But it was cute, cosy and clean, and I didn't complain. ... Extremely nice evening staff and a perfect location! But be ware of the bed size...

though quite small, the room was very nice. ... We did not eat at the restaurant, but heard it was very good. we found all in all that most of the restaurants in venice were not so good and very high priced, so we suspect it was a big mistake to not take our dinner at the restaurant in the hotel. You might encourage eating at their restaurant. ... very charming. little conveniences like a mini bar in your room, free internet availability in the lobby, a very nice continental breakfast in the morning. all in all a very nice place. expensive, but no doubt competetive.

It was a bit challenging to get our luggage to our fourth floor room - there was no elevator & the bellman had left for the day. There was musty smell when you entered the first floor but it disapated as you proceeded up the steps.
The reception staff was very friendly, courteous & helpful ... the location was conveinent, liked that the gondolas passed below our window & we could enjoy the singing & church bells. Seems as though the air conditioning didn't work well the higher up you went, so on the fourth floor it didn't seem to work very well at all. The beds & pillows were a bit hard. ... staff was very courtous & helpful with directions ... in the evenings, the smell from the resturant below could be almost overwhelming. ... good location, easy to access many historic sites, it was easy to find & get around the city

We did not complain or ask for an improved room. However, the fourth floor for a room when their is no lift is an issue. The air conditioning was not as efficient as it could have been. We did not consider these problems bad enough to warrant a complaint to the hotel staff. ... No lift. Free Shared Internet access. ... Ask for a floor on the lower floors - 2 or 3 maximum. No lift. Rooms are small - I suspect that this is the norm for Venice. I would recommend this Hotel for it's central location close to the major monuments. Free shared internet access.

Your directions to the property say to get on water bus line #1 or #82 and get off at the Rialto Bridge stop. What they didn't say was which direction to go on the #1 or #82! We had no idea and got on a boat going the wrong direction and ended up getting very lost. ... Would be nice if receptionist had a few dinner recommendations for the guests. We asked for one and we were told that the 'one' she usually recommends is booked. A couple back up restaurants would be helpful as we had NO idea where to dine. ... Need to be more clear when telling people where the water taxi will pick them up to go to the airport. We were told 'just outside'...when really you should say, 'go to the right when you walk out of the hotel, and the water taxi will be in the canal where the street/alley ends.' It was dark and rainy when we left early morning and we didn't know exactly where to meet our taxi. ... Not sure if it's on the website or not but everyone should be aware there are 4 flights of stairs to trek up if your room is on the 4th floor. ... great location, friendly staff, clean, a little pricey for what you get but that's just Venice i think....overall we had a nice stay.

The Al Gambero sign on the side of the hotel needs to be moved to the left so that it can be seen better from a distance. ...
