Venice is always confusing at first but the hotel was found with little problem. ... Staff very helpful. Arranged reservations for dinner, recommendations for restaurants, arranged concert tickets. Wake-up calls perfect. Great location--will stay there again. ... Staff did not know alilaguna schedule for travel to airport which I would have expected. ... Extremely clean and very hospitable. Quiet location. Some rooms have canal view. Lift (though I never used it). ... European hotel with excellent attention to cleanliness, gracious staff. Excellent value for money in a central location in Venice.

The staff arranged a private trip to Murano for us. A highlight of our visit. ... Great location. On a canal and very neat inside. The breakfast was very good. The staff very helpful and accomodating. Only negative is the little square outside of the hotel. I realize it is beyond the control of the hotel but if that were fixed up it would greatly add to the appeal of La Locandiera.

We highly recommended this small hotel. Very convenient, large rooms with new, beautifully tiled baths. Excellent breakfast. Evan, the manager, was extremely helpful as was Rosie. He went out of his way to be sure we got a water taxi nearest the hotel, helped with our many pieces of luggage (we'd been on a cruise)when we left. They are expanding and La Lacandiera will be even more appealing with the changes they are making to the entrance, reception area and breakfast room. We'd stay there again! ... The manager, Even, arranged the night before for a water taxi and the exact price of 60 euros for four people with 8 pieces of luggage. We rode from the hotel to the 'downtown' Hertz location. ... Expanding to the third floor with three more rooms/baths. Front eakfast room will become larger (and needed) reception area and another area to the rear will become the new breakfast room. Evan, the manager, speaks excellent English and is extremely accommodating. ... Charming small hotel, newly renovated from an old Venetian townhouse. Spacious rooms and beautiful tiled baths. Excellent breakfast more than just 'continental.' Located just 7 minute's walk from St. Mark's Square in a tiny square with a church. Two minutes walk to a water taxi stop.

Got there mid-morning and didn't expect the room to be ready, but it was - and beyond our expectations! Two large beds for the 3 of us, kitchen, lovely view. We were greeted very warmly. ... Extremely happy with everything...the complimentary breakfast was wonderful, the staff very helpful and gave us advice about the AliLaguna boats, etc. The room could not have been better--extremely clean, beautiful, modern (love the key card turning off the lights) but very Old World at the same time. Wish we were going back next week and will definitely recommend this to everyone we know who's going that direction! ... Very accommodating and a generous check-out time of 11:30, which gave us some extra shopping time in Venice. They even offered a safe place to keep our bags if we wanted to stay longer; unfortunately, we needed to get to the port. ... I don't remember the website saying that there was a kitchen in the large first-floor room (which we had for the three of us) or a bidet (probably so common in Europe that it goes without saying!). I know there's an elevator for other floors (was that mentioned? Very important since a lot of the European small hotels don't have!). ... Warm, welcoming, generous-sized rooms, just like staying at a friend's home.

Let me clarify the above comment. I booked a quad room but the website describes this as two rooms adjoining. In the United States, this means two separate rooms sharing a bath with a wall in between the rooms and a door. This is not what their quad room is, however. Instead, it is two large rooms that really make one very large room, with a small kitchenette (with no cooking utensils or dishes) and bath. This is, I'm sure, an extremely large quad room in Italy. We, however, wanted separate rooms. The hotel was able to accommodate us by giving us that room for two (at Double Room price), and an additional room for two (which was really a triple for a Double Room price). This was fine with us and we were very happy. ... This hotel is extraordinary. It is spotlessly clean, the facilities are quite lovely and the location could not be better. Although the quad room was slightly mis-represented on the web site, all turned out OK. ... Again, we paid more than we expected but this is because we had two separate rooms instead of the Quad. ... Please clarify the description of the quad room.
Note that the entrance is on the ground floor and the elevator makes this a very accessible hotel for anyone with a disability.
Note that for individuals going to the airport early in the morning, the hotel works regularly with a private water taxi and the night clerk walked us to the dock nearby to catch our taxi to the airport. It was very easy and they were very helpful. ... I have already described this hotel as spotlessly clean, large rooms, air conditioning that works well (you have control over the thermostat in your room), and a breakfast that was excellent. I would definitely not look any further for a great, reasonably priced hotel in Venice.

I had not printed out the online directions, but was trying to follow a map of Venice. As we were about to walk past the hotel, our concierge, who had been watching for us, came out and welcomed us. ... The room was beautiful and sparkling clean. It had the air and beauty of Old Venice with the modern amenities we all appreciate, such as new bathrooms, adequate lighting and internet access. ... At check out we still had several hours before we had to meet up with our cruise ship. Our concierge graciously showed us how to get to the ship and stored our luggage while we toured. When we returned to pick up the luggage, she nicely showed us to the toilette to freshen up first. ... The photograph of the bedroom does not do it justice. ... Of our entire trip, it was the nicest hotel. It was spacious, elegant, beautifully decorated and very clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. I would definitely go back there again.

We arrived early and they stored our luggage while we toured the city, even, placing the juggage in our room prior to our return. ... Exceptionally clean and charming ... The water taxi could not get to our pick-up location for the trip to the airport. Your staff person was extremely helpful in calling the taxi and then taking us to a new location (whick we would have never found without her). She stayed with us until the taxi arrived--in the rain! A wonderful person and a credit to your hotel. Please thank her for her kindness at a stressful time. ... Very charming and quaint. Close the St. Mark's and all the fine shopping and restaurants yet still very quite and peaceful.

On arrival we were greeted in a very friendly manner and taken to our rooms. We were given all the information we needed for our stay at the hotel. ... Having read previous comments on La Locandiera we had high hopes for our stay and we were not disappointed. Everything about the hotel was even better than we expected. The two ladies in our party are twins and it was their birthday while we were in Venice. The hotel helped in making it a memorable time for them. ... As we were not leaving Venice until late in the afternoon we had to leave our luggage at the hotel after the stated check out time. Facilities were provided for safe storage without hesitation. ... La Locandiera is a small, clean, very friendly hotel in an excellent location. When we return to Venice we will certainly choose to stay here rather than any other hotel.

We were delighted with the room, it more than fulfilled our expectations. ... The was a problem with a towel and it was thought perhaps that we had changed our towel for theirs - however as we had not taken towels we assured the receptionist this was not the case. She was most apologetic and said she would contact the laundry company to ascertain if they had left it by mistake. ... No ... A very clean, well appointed hotel,in a quiet small square, just steps away from St Marks Square. Limited breakfast menu, however this did not deter from a very enjoyable stay.

We were late because a) the train from Paris was late and we missed our connection and b) because the hotel is very difficult to find and because it is new almost noone knew of it however the lady in the hotel booking office at the St. Lucia station had heard of it and helped us. Despite being late the hotel retained our booking and were excellent. ... This is an outstanding, beautiful, well managed hotel where we would happily stay again. Despite our difficulty in finding it, this turned out in the end to be an advantage since it is in a very quiet area yet only one hundred yards from some of the busiest part of Venice. We also had an embarassing accident in our room which caused some damage to hotel property and the attitude of the staff was wonderful. We stayed in fifteen hotels on our European trip and I would judge this to have been the overall best (the others included VERY high classs -read expensive - hotels in Rome and Paris) ... Give directions on the site: eg - from St. Marks Square facing the door of the cathedral go to the left corner of the cathedral and proceed straight, past the bookshop on your right (which is excellent for all your map needs) turn right and cross over the little canal. Head straight into a small square with two outdoor restaurants on your left. Go to the left corner of this quare and there is a small alley leading to the left past an Internet Cafe (avoid this since it is ridiculously expensive). About thirty metres after the internet shop you walk under an arch - immediately after this turn left for twenty metres and La Locanderia is on your right facing a small square fronting the Sacristy (currently under restoration). ... As good a place as you are likely to find especially if you get the ground floor room at the back which is effectively a suite with its own kitchen. The staff are exceptionally helpful - and, unlike most other helpful hotel staff one meets, they are helpful when there is nothing in it for them. The place is a little expensive - though not really for Venice - but I would very strongly recommend it.

We had read that hotel guests get lost in Venice, so we learned the route from the water-taxi to the hotel by heart - and it worked first time. The route is well described by the hotel, and provided you realise that many 'streets' are narrow enough that you can touch both sides with arms outstretched, it's easy. Our flight had been delayed but staff were still on duty after 7pm and we got a lovely large room (no. 21), and were back out to enjoy the city (on our first visit) within 10 minutes. ... We were very pleased with the size of our room, which was clean to perfection, tastefully decorated - and the arm-chair was much appreciated after a day's walking round the city. The en-suite was large as well (by UK standards). The canal outside the window (2 floors down) ensured no street noise ... Paying the bill was very straightforward, staff very pleasant, easy to talk to, and very helpful indeed. We were allowed to leave our luggage in the hotel until mid-day on our last morning, which allowed us a morning around the city without encumberance. ... The website gives a good and honest description of La Locandiera. The frontage onto the square is very modest and you might walk right past in a hurry, but inside it's all as on the website. There was a bit of refurbishment going on on another side of the square when we visited (mid-April 2007) and it could be a lot more fashionable when the work is finished. The hotel is barely 3 minutes from St Mark's and the same distance from the waterbuses so is ideal if, like us, you needed to make best use of every minute. ... La Locandiera is a small, friendly, well run and convenient hotel with competitive prices for Venice. We would love to visit again, and have already recommended it to relatives and friends - what more can you say? - except to give our thanks for a most memorable visit.

The directions were correct, but the hotel's name was just written on the window, i.e. it was not very prominent, so we walked right past it twice before realizing we were in the right place. ... We stayed for three nights and all the reception personnel were extremely helpful, not least when we needed help ordering parts for an Italian sports car! The room and bath were nicely done, and the hotel was very quiet. Unfortunately, there was a nasty mold spot on the bathroom ceiling, but it was 'ignorable'. The breakfast was cosy and nice, as one would expect in a small hotel, but very standard and certainly not memorable. The location was marvelous - just a few minutes from the harbor and everything we wanted to see. We didn't need any Venice pass because pretty much everything was in walking distance. Would definitely stay there again. ... We had to leave very early in the morning, so we paid and checked out the evening before. The staff wanted to make us coffee, etc. since we were leaving before their breakfast service was starting. We declined, but were grateful for the offer. ... There was a wi-fi network availabe, but it didn't work from our room, just from our in the hall where the hotel also had a computer availble for the use of guests. Couldn't say re directions - I got there from a different direction into that square as a friend was staying at the Colombina around the corner. Either way would be fairly confusing to describe as it looks like you are heading into a alley until you hit the square. ... I had originally booked on venere.com for 2 rooms then had to cancel that reservation when my friend chose to stay at the Colombina. The triple I needed reappeared on you site first. I had seen the hotel on both sites, and cannot say now what I saw on which. Either way, it is a nice little hotel. ... I mistakenly walked out with the room key and power card. For idiots like me, perhaps a longer fob which would not fit in my pocket would be helpful. Did not realize it until I was at the train station. Called back and they sent a young lady to the station as I did not have time to go back to the hotel and catch my train. ... Our room was the quadruple room on the first floor. I had noted some complaints on venere about the hall noise. They have a double door in place now, meaning the locked door is several feet from what I suspect was the original door, to form a sort of air lock which increases noise suppression. We were not bothered by any noise. I suspect all of the floors are hard tile like ours, so if someone drops something or walks with hard soles above you you could hear, but not a problem at all. Just don't open the door to the canal to admire the view unless you enjoy mosquitoes. ... Our room was very clean, comfortable, and as the quadruple room very large. Breakfast was very adequate - cereal, yogurt, peaches, pastries, hard boiled eggs, coffee, juice, milk. The hotel is simple in its staffing and lacks a bar, restaurant or real foyer. On the other hand, the room was much larger than my friend's at the Colombina at nearly half the cost of what a triple would have cost me there, and there is an internet cafe, pizzarias, produce, and other amenities closer to Locandieri. It is in a very quiet location but vey close to activity.

However, I would add that we arrived at 14.30 and our room was not ready. We were very politely invited to leave our bags and return within an hour, which we did. It was, however, a little disappointing not to be able to take a shower etc immediately after travelling. I can't recall exactly what time check-in was supposed to be but it was definitely quite a bit earlier than 14.30! ... I would definitely recommend it; excellently situated, lovely old-style bedrooms and wonderfully modern bathrooms, exactly as you would wish!

The directions were very clear, but without them, it would have been difficult to find the hotel. Thank you for making sure they were clear. ... I would recommend La Locandiera to others and I would stay there again.

Breakfast could have been a little more hearty. ... Unbeatable location. The kids loved the back canal outside the window on our bottom floor.

I didn't print off any directions, so we had a bit of trouble finding the place. I had the email print out of the registration voucher, maybe directions should be on this? The hotel was great and the people were very helpful. Had a wonderful long weekend.
... I think good value for money for Venice, from what I'm told. ... Very close to St Mark's Square but away from the maddeningly touristy areas as it is on a private square. Free water taxi ride to the Murano Glass factory - wonderful. Very helpful staff - they made us feel very welcome.

We enjoyed our stay and the reception we received was excellent. However, I forgot some clothes in the drawer next to the bed in Room 23. No one has contacted me about this so I assume they were thrown out?
Barbara Miszkiel ... It would be helpful to guests if they are told at the beginning of the stay that, as a matter of policy, towels are not to be taken to the Lido Beach but left in the rooms. Otherwise, people will assume they can, as long as they bring them back. A reminder at the beginning of the stay is more pleasant than a note reprimanding guests later, as they did not know. ... Very nice and helpful staff. Location close to Piazza San Marco but far enough away for a quiet stay.
