In the beautiful St. John's Square (in Bragora) we can admire the Gritti Badoer Palace with its magnificent gothic front of the 15th Century and the five central joined windows surmounted with fragments of byzantine sculpture of the 10th Century. The above said Palace, formerly owned by the Gritti family, passed by marriage in 1591 to the Morosini family and, by a further marriage, to the Badoers. |
Towards the middle of the 19th Century, the Palace was purchased by the Marquis Saibante, now privately owned. Nowadays is a charming hotel that preserves the atmosphere without time of an ancient Venetian dwelling. Spacious and comfortable rooms with private bathroom, shower and telephone. |
The quiet neighborhood around the hotel is a world away from the milling hordes near St. Mark's Square and the pedestrian-clogged Riva degli Schiavoni, both of which are only a short walk from the hotel. Inside Hotel La Residenza the ornate salon has magnificent sculpted plaster walls and ceilings and lovely paintings. |
