We would definately stay there again. ... The hotel location was handy . Our room was quiet and spotless. ... Breakfast was better than expected. ... Great value for the money. Close to transportation.

Hotel Messner is in a fantastic location and was very easy to find. The hotel was attractive and welcoming. ... The room was lovely - very clean, well decorated, lots of storage space and views over the garden and the canal. The hotel had a pretty garden in which to have breakfast and an evening meal if desired. The staff were all friendly and accommodating. There was a problem with the hot water for the shower which was being sorted out during our stay. ... The hotel has a restaurant which provides evening meals for guests and non-guests. The prices were reasonable for Venice, the food was excellent and the service was very good. ... A really nice little hotel in a good position for exploring Venice. We would definitely stay there again

We didn't receive an offer of assistance with our bags, even up the stairs, but otherwise, check-in was fine. ... The room was simply beautiful. ... The man at the desk (a different man than the one who checked us in), was fabulous. He let us keep our bags stowed until that evening and was very helpful. ... You should have better pictures of the accomodations. Because they're more attractive than the pics on the site. ... I'd recommend it.

Upon my further inquiry to the hotel, the hotel management gave a detail direction to the hotel,i.e. the particular of bus and watertaxi to take. My family was grateful for the help. It really help when one is a stranger in a foreign land. ... The quad room was new. Hope they maintain it always. It provides a internet service. ... The personnel was helpful ... The breakfast and dinner at the restaurant were very good. ... Highly recommended.Locality excellent, walking distant to most of the attractions in the city.

The air conditioning wasn't working when we arrived and we found it very hot. But when we asked we were informed that all the other guests were actually cold! That would just be our British bodies then! ... They are very good about looking after suitcases until you need them so you can make the most of the end of the stay. ... Great value for money, excellent location, quiet, close to the water buses. Friendly staff, clean rooms.
Well, I must like as this was my second visit to the Hotel Messner. I stayed there with friends in September 03.

I did not find directions on the World By website - I received very clear instructions from the hotel. It was very easy to find once I had the directions - it would havebeen impossible for me to find them on my own. The instructions were: go to Salute station, cross over the last bridge on your right and the hotel is 200 meters on your left. That's exactly what I did and it was perfect. ... It's a perfect hotel if you are looking for value. The location is great, it's clean, tehre is enough hot water, people are friendly, breakfast is fine. It's not a hotel you would spend days in just 'chilling out', but if you are looking to hang out in Venice and want a nice, clean, inexpensive place to stay, Hotel Messner is the hotel for you. I will definitely stay there again.

Everything ok and friendly ... Some of the desk employes weren't not very helpfull and uninterested.
Others were kind and hellpfull. ... I asked help for the timetable of the bus to the airport (Treviso) and I didn't get it.
I happened to meer the director and he helped kindly and phoned for me.
A shame, that the gave him a wrong information. The bus did leave an hour later, so I had to take a taxi. ... Good value and well situated. Nice quite and yet central place to be. Good breakfast.

The first room we had was very dark, with no view. We asked for a room with a view and changed after the first night. I would have asked for this when booking but there was no such option on the form. ... We had a great time. ... It would be useful to point out that some rooms have a fabulous view of the canal and some don't, and to give people the option of choosing which they want. The photos of rooms on the website are not particularly informative. In the first room we got English TV but not in the second. ... Quiet, in a very pretty area away from the main commercial streets, but you have to walk a bit to find anywhere to eat, particularly on a Monday.

A great warm and friendly budget hotel in an expensive city. It says 2* but felt like it should really be a 3* as far as quality.
Our only small problem was getting the shower temp correct it fluctuated between freezing and boiling.
The only thing the room was missing was a bath as after a day walking around Venice it is always nice to have a good soak!
I have already recommended it to friends.

The accommodation facilities should be made clear to clients prior to booking. We arrived to a 'cupboard' housing 5 beds - not what was made out to us. Also it was too much trouble for the hotel staff to serve us a coffee at their bar (which closed at 20h30).
A most disappointing experience and in fact we only stayed one night instead of 2. ... A shocker - not to be recommended!!

We were greeted by name! - the plus of staying in smaller hotels. ... Excellent value and perfect position on canal side near Guggenhiem. This is the best part of Venice to stay in as it quiet but very close to the Grand Canal (and so all the sights). ... I would recommend this location as the ideal place to stay in Venice.

Staff were helpful with restaurant suggestions, maps, and other information. Location near Salute was very convenient. Breakfast featured many choices of cold items (cereal, cheese, bread, meat, fruit) and good coffee/cappucino. ... The availability of a laptop with Internet connection in lobby, for a fee, was most welcome. ... Great location for transportation, on a quiet street/canal, and there are very good restaurants nearby. Hotel is attractive, clean, and comfortable. Staff are well-informed and helpful with everything from computer glitches to choice of restaurants.

My friend, Mrs Howitt, has problems with the shower in her room which were only partly resolved during the stay, ie the tap controlling the water temperature was impossible to move and the temperature of the water was far too high. ... They were most helpful in allowing us to leave our luggage until late in the afternoon ... A fairly basic but very good value hotel with polite and friendly staff in an ideal location. We will come again.

The room we had was room 1, which cosidering how long ago we booked was not a good choice as it is over reception and by a walkway, hence not a quiet room. also, we had problems with hot water in that room on a day to day basis, which it occurred to us was not something new to the hotel as they knew exactly what we should do, ie.. run the hot tap for about five to ten minutes before getting any hot water! not ideal at all! and the shower head was pretty useless! ... We would not recommend this hotel, the staff were not friendly, breakfast was not pleasurable, the waiting staff seemed to find requests a bit of bother and were generally not very polite! and as per our comments above, the bathing facilities were poor.

There was warm, pleasant and beautiful atmosfere from the very beginning. ... I had a very pleasant stay at Hotel Messner, particularly in comparison with an unfortunate hotel experience during the same trip. To my friends I would describe Messner as perfectly located, in a quiet place, with clean accomodations and caring staff, with excellent breakfast that was beautifully served - fitting any kind of diet and with a good variety of fresh fruit and beverages.

I had no problems with VeniceBy.com but in all honesty, I knew which hotel I wanted to book and I was not able to find another way to directly contact the hotel via e-mail. I would most likely use the direct contact method in the future. ... No problems-- everything was as we had anticipated. ... Wonderful service and very nice hotel ... It was wonderful-- I would go back to the same hotel in a heartbeat ... No problems ... We were in Venice visiting our son who is studying at Casa Artom with Wake Forest University. The location and accomodations provided by Hotel Messner were ideal for our needs. I was located on a quiet canal off the Grand Canal and provided very easy access to the Vaporetto stop at San Salute. The breakfast was great.

Had no trouble finding the hotel and check-in was easy. ... The staff was very helpful and informative. My only comment about the room is that as there were no screens on the windows and it was warm enough to leave the windows open (air con seemed not to be working), we were bitten quite badly by insects. Other than that, I would recommend this hotel. ... We had to leave a day early due to an illness in the family, and the man at the front desk was incredibly helpful in terms of getting me a phone number to rebook a flight and getting us checked out. We could not have managed this without him. ... Lovely location, quiet, not many tourists, a 'real' neighborhood. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable. Just bring insect repellent for the bugs off the canal at night. ... Lovely location, quiet, not many tourists, a 'real' neighborhood. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable. Everything on your end was absolutely perfect. The help at Messner was mixed. We had some very wonderful desk attendants and some very rude and unfriendly. All in all, however we enjoyed our stay very much and loved the accomodations, food, facilities. Thanks for all of your help ... Their new bulding, two doors down is really great and we loved being there. It felt very quiet and private and had a lovely garden. ... Perfect location, decent price and lovely accomodations. We were made to feel very welcome on our arrival. ... Staff were helpful and friendly. Despite knowing some Italian, my knowledge always seems to fail me on anything complex. The staff's English was very good. ... The staff were very willing to look after one's luggage for the day (our flight back from Venice did not leave until the evening). ... Mention of the annex? ... We've stayed in Venice lots of times, generally in self-catering accommodation. This is a very convenient hotel for the vaporetto and for staying near the heart of Venice without having to cope with the crowds. The room and bathroom were small (as is so often the case in Venice), but there is a very nice breakfast room. Having stayed in various areas of Venice, I think Dorsoduro is the nicest. Good, reasonably priced hotel for a few days' stay (especially since hotel prices in Venice are so high!).

Three comments: 1. Install mosquito window screens - would be much more efficient than the plug-in chemicals and would ensure an undisturbed sleep 2. The shower door opening was very narrow - we wondered how heavier people would be able to shower 3. The walls are very thin... if the neighbour went into the bathroom, you thought they were right in our room ... It would be nice to organize a breakfast for people who have to check out early ... A nice, usually quiet little hotel, clean, comfortable.
