 The apartment Il Mondo Nuovo is located only 2 minutes walking from the famous San Marco Square, with its Basilica (it's certainly the symbol of Venice, with more than two square kilometers of beautiful mosaics, it contains inestimable treasures as the "Pala d'Oro", masterpiece of Gothic-Byzantine goldsmith's art, precious glasses, amphoras, cups and the liturgical vestments. Recently it's been done the restoration of the marvellous multicoloured marbles inside the church) and Palazzo Ducale (marvellous example of Gothic architecture, it was built with the materials imported from the colonies of the Venetian Republic but during the Renaissance the building had been changed with the construction of the impressing "Giants' Stair", made by Antonio Rizzo or with the Lombardo's decorations. It resumes one thousand years of history in fact it was the center of the executive and legal power as the "Sala del Maggior Consiglio", "Sala del Senato" and the "Sala del Collegio" testify. It's possible to admire precious paintings by Tintoretto, Tiziano and Veronese and take a tour of the ancient prisons where Casanova "lived" for some years before escaping (it says he drank a cup of coffč at Floriŕn Caffč before leaving Venice), the Piazzetta dei Leoni and the Torre dell'Orologio, the Procuratie Vecchie and Nuove, the Campanile and the Museo Correr. A gondola ride is the most romantic and "Venetian" way to appreciate the city's artistic splendour and immense historical heritage. The famous Rialto Bridge is located only 5 minutes walking from the apartment Il Mondo Nuovo (the current structure was built in just three years, between 1588 and 1591, as a permanent replacement for the boat bridge and three wooden bridges that had spanned the Grand Canal at various times since the 12th Century. It remained the only way to cross the Grand Canal on foot until the Accademia Bridge was built in 1854, it was designed to allow passage of galleys, and the massive structure was built on some 12,000 wooden pilings that still support the bridge more than 400 years later.
