Very friendly and would like to revisit next time in Venice ... I will be writing to the hotel expressing our thanks for their kindness, helpfulness and friendship during our stay. All of the staff (not just reception) were nice and talkable to. Thank you for the lead to them. ... Smoth and easy, everything there and available. ... Would not be suitable for wheelchair or physically disabled people, bur this really aplies to the whole of Venice and maybe should be stated in any liturature. ... Excelent, well worth the visit, Quiet but within easy walking distance of all places.

I sent an e-mail two days before we arrived requesting information about transfers from Marco Polo Airport and within a couple of hours was provided with all the information we needed. I replied requesting a private water taxi to meet us at the airport (at about 2130 hrs) and this was arranged by the hotel staff. A water taxi met us at the dockside and the driver took us right to the door (including a 400m walk) where we were met outside by the receptionist. Excellent. ... The hotel and room exceeded our expectations. The hotel was perfect for a romantic break, in a nice location within easy reach of St.Marks either by vaporetta or even on foot. The rooms were spotlessly clean, airy, and well decorated and the hotel itself full of character and charm. On top of this the staff were extremely obliging, nothing being too much trouble and also speaking fluent English.(Our Italian could be better) ... We checked out at noon, but our flight did not leave until 2130. No problem! Our luggage was looked after by the staff (at no extra expense) until our departure from Venice. Again a taxi was requested (this time a cab taxi) which was arranged within two minutes, and turned up bang on time. ... Transfers can be arranged. Friendly staff. Money changing at reception. General information available at reception. ... Both myself and my wife were extremely impressed with our stay at the Pausania and would recommend this hotel to anyone, in fact my mother is planning a stay next year on our recommendation. We have stayed in hotels all over the world and the Pausania certainly lived up to expectations.

It was easy because this was our third stay at Hotel Pausania. ... It was very good to see that the rooms had been modernized since our last stay. The only problem was that the height-adjustment knob on our shower was broken so that the shower head was at the lowest position. ... I've stayed there before, so knew the way ... Not sure I read the website, since I knew what to expect ... I think 250 Europs per night is too much for a 3-star hotel, even in Venice. ... A pleasant hotel in an old (C14?) building in a quiet part of Venice. Everything is fine, incluidng the breakfast room with a garden view, but I felt the hotel was overpriced - it had doubled in the four years since we were last there, because of refurbishment. This seemed to consist of pseudo roccoco plasterwork on the walls and ceiling of our room.

The poor comment around the quality of the room was that it was noisy, you could hear people flushing the toilet, having a shower and going up and down the stairs outside. I knew the hotel already and had spent 3 days last year on it.
The room this year was not as spacious and the air conditioner was not working properly.
Breakfast service was excellent. Desk attendants were too (fake) polite [the man in the afternoon] or curt, unfriendly [the woman in the morning]. ... Offer to visit glass blowing demonstration was a set up for hotel guests to by Murano glass at exhorbitant prices. In fact, some of the prices quoted on the Island were three times the cost on Venice stores. We did not appreciate this at all. ... Good.

We have stayed there twice before in 2000 and 2002 and will not be staying there again; it has gone downhill, unfortunately. ... I think if one requests a specific room well in advance, you should be given that accommodation. The website said that the rooms were air-conditioned, and that all rooms that did not have a canal view would have a 'beautiful garden view.' However, even though the temperature in Venice was around 30 degrees C, we were told that the air-conditioning had not yet been turned on this year (we arrived on 29 May). This prompted us to begin a search for another hotel, as the room was stifling. Luckily, the air conditioning came on the next day, perhaps because of my complaint about it (I should note that I had as pleasant a 'complaint experience' as one could hope: I think I was polite and reasonable, and the clerk at the reception was the same). As for our view, one could glimpse the garden if one leaned far out of the window and twisted one's neck; without such effort, all that was visible from our room was the corrugated metal roof of a shed. ... See above. Something I read on the net described the rooms as 'spacious' (though I'm not sure it was on your site): this was certainly not the case in ours, which was just enough for the bed (there was no room for a chair, so there wasn't one, and we had to be creative about where to store our suitcases). However, the public areas of the hotel--especially the large hall through which one passed after climbing the stairs--were strikingly beautiful; it is/was quite justified for your site to claim that one feels one is entering a palace. ... We traveled for 45 days around Europe, and though only one of our 15 hotel rooms was more expensive than the Hotel Pausania, at least half were nicer. However, I suspect that the hotel is not a bad value for Venice, where accommodations are all over-priced. ... Set on a lovely canal in a great location in the Dorsoduro (quiet, but not at all far from the activity and facilities of the Campo Santa Margherita); public areas that evoke the feel of an old palace; very small rooms (at least ours was) and a very challenging staircase to ascend and descend if your room isn't on the ground floor; a spare Continental breakfast; if you care about air-conditioning, don't assume that, just because the hotel has it, you'll actually get it; a nice staff, ranging from just plain polite to very polite.

When we rang the hotel we were told that there was a bus and water taxi strike so the hotel arranged a taxi for us and the driver walked with us to the hotel. This was welcome as we arrived very late and finding our way would have been difficult. As it was ryanair had arranged buses from Treviso airport to the bus station - so there was an alternative - but it would have been a late arrival and stressful alternative. ... Everything was very good. The only minor detail was that the upper rooms were up a fairly steep staircase and this combined with the romanesque outer stair meant a stiff climb to our rooms. We were fine and the brouchure does explain about the romanesque stairs. It was extremely picturesque and quiet but en route to most of the sites. For anyone with a sense of history that likes comfort too - I would certainly recommend it. ... As above - steep stairs.

I have stayed in the hotel before, so I knew the way there. I have been at the Pausania before when the water came over the edge of the canal outside, so I knew there was a danger of flooding. This year the weather was very bad during our stay and, again, all Venice was subject to flooding. However, the front desk gave no warning to its guests that this might happen. Had they done so we could have timed our exits and entrances better with regard to the high tides. On our last night there we returned from dinner and had to walk through some quite high water to gain access to the hotel. A bigger hotel might provide footwear, a smaller hotel, such as the POausania, could not be expected to do so, but could have told its guests about the problem. front ... I'd definitely recommed it to anyone wanting to stay out of the heavily touristed St Mark's Square area.

The air conditioning was not working in our room during a hot period in Venice. The staff did not seem particularly concerned. They did offer us a fan, but we had paid for an air conditioned room and did not get one. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone planning to visit during the summer. ... The unreliable air conditioning should be mentioned. We were disappointed and inconvenienced. ... The location is wonderful; the rooms are clean and attractive; but our room was not comfortable because of the air conditioning problem.

Hotel Pausania has a great location -- close to the Grand Canal but in a wonderful neighbourhood with lots of character. The staff at the hotel weren't particularly friendly, but they provided us with all the help we asked for. The 'superior' room was small but very clean.

Breakfasts were poor- very limited selection of fresh breads. We paid an additional fee for a canal view room - this was a waste of money as the windows were very high and you had to stand on tip toe to see the canal! ... the hotel were good about letting us leave luggage and use the facilities to freshen up after we checked out but were ctching an evening flight. ... See comments above about canal view rooms and breakfasts. There is no seating in the garden other than a stone bench. ... good swift service and easy to use site ... Pleasant but very overpriced even taking into account the fact that hotels in Venice are generally expensive.

The directions could have been much more specific from the water bus. The first receptionist was rude and unfriendly, but the man later in the day was very gracious and helpful. The htoel lobby was very dusty and musty and delapidated. But, the good points: very quiet, large room, great air-conditioning, good breakfast, great location and the taxi set-up (by car) to the airport was very convenient! All in all a pretty good deal for your price! ... The photos on web site made the lobby look much more appealing. In person- it was pretty yucky. The rtooms were ok- but again- not as pictured. ... Desk staff was very helpful in arranging a taxi (by car ) to the airport exactly as we needed it. ... Taxi to airport-

-Garden was not available to sit in. -Breakfast was absolutely awful! -The fabric of the hotel was generally poor. -Not a hotel that we would ever return to. ... See above. Awful place. ... Don't stay there - there a many other hotels in Venice that are MUCH better value than this place.
I feel that we were charged far too much for our stay.

Hotel location is close to vaporetto stop, but otherwise not very close to anything of interst except the University. ... Breakfast was rather stingy, but the setting very nice. Couldn't believe that they didn't have cappucino in the mornings. Staff was variable from veryhelpful and courteous to perfunctory (at night). ... Staff helped arrange transport to the airport, and was very comprehensive in options and times of various modes of travel. This was very helpful ... Old and off the beaten track, but very well kept up, quite comfortable.

We've stayed at the Pausania before, but I was happy to be able to book our stay online. The service from both WorldBy and the Pausania were excellent. I will certainly use WorldBy again, and we will no doubt return to the Pausania.

Breakfast was less than we expected. The coffee was terrible (like USA) and the baked goods were store bought and not really very good. ... bb ... Nice, very quiet and comfortable, but the breakfast was nothing to write home about and the resturant they recommended the night we arrived served(very)bad fish and charged us $150.00 for the pleasure--about double what we paid anywhere else.

Nearer Ca Rezzonico water bus stop than we had enviseaged ... Extemely helpful in giving us an early breakfast on day we left ... Friendly hotel in an old building with pleasing character situated by a quiet canal in an area nearby, yet far enough away, from the major sights. There are some good value restaurants in the area, which in itself was very pleasant to walk around.

Positive: really nice area, taking into account the bustle of Venice an area with very little tourists, nice restaurants close by and peaceful
Negative: local band rehearsing next door (only from 17.00 till about 19.30, so not really annoying The bed we had was not a queen size, but two beds set next to each other, this was not a big problem, but I did end up lying in the gap between the two beds ... The room was clean but not spacious. The air conditioning was not functioning to my expectation so the room was hot. The people at the hotel seemed to think it was working fine.
The bathtub in my room (107)was scary. I prefer to shower but it was difficult to stand in the tub where there was not a flat surface. It was dangerous.

Clearer advice on eating in the area on our arrival. We arrived at 22.30 and there was pessimism about whether we would find anywhere to eat at that time of night both by e-mail and enquiring on arrival. We were able to get a most satisfactory pasta in a resteraunt1 minute from hotel and there was a choice. A very lively square. I would have had less anxiety if there was some assurance that this would be the case. ... Lovely room. Very poor breakfast. We went out in the end. ... Yes and the area too. It is a secret gem!

Unfortunately the information on public transport (i.e.Alilaguna) on the Pausania website was not up-to-date - this was very inconvenient for me.
Also, on arrival the receptionist told me I could not have the booked single room for that night, but would have to move rooms the next day. I was not at all happy about this, as I had rejected another hotel on the grounds that the same two single rooms would not be available for the whole stay. ... Some of the reception staff could have been more helpful - particularly the person on my first night. Also, the reception desk could usefully provide guests with more information about 'what's on' at the time in Venice, about using public transport, and a tourist map. ... Perhaps older people or those with mobility problems should be warned that rooms on floors 2 and 3 are only accessible by a stone staircase that is very steep indeed and has quite uneven sloping steps. ... An attractive, quiet and friendly small hotel in an ideal location. We enjoyed waking up every morning to the sound of flocks of swifts and church bells !

The receptionist, a 30 or so year old male, was very good at his job. He was very patient with our questions, and made our stay there much more comfortable. Each day we had questions, and he was very gracious in his efforts to answer them. He made us feel like we were special guest's; and that is what a first class front desk person is supposed to do. The staff were mostly polite, but one in particular was not always helpful, and did not always give us the information we asked for. We were twice obliged to use private transport arranged by the hotel because the information on public transport that we asked for was not given to us. This member of staff was also not very friendly, and seemed to be frustrated by our questions. Sadly, although i have stayed at this hotel before, I would not do so again. ... The hotel was very pretty, and in a lovely, quiet location, close to a vaporetto stop and a lively local square. But the single rooms are very small, and the staff not universally helpful and friendly.

I don't recall having been provided or directed to directions to the hotel by the website.
The clerk's lack of politeness was the most disappointing aspect of our visit. I did not feel welcome at the hotel, and that definitely is something I would consider on future stays in Venice. ... I was disturbed by a neighbor of the hotel playing extremely loud music in the middle of the night. The volume was at a level that defied common sense or common courtesy at the hour of the night (perhaps 2 or 3 AM) and given the proximity to the hotel and its guests - as well as to other neighbors. ... The same staff person that checked us in also checked us out. She exhibited the same lack of politeness upon our departure. ... Don't remember whether you included mention of an available public-access computer (for internet access) on the website, but that was appreciated. ... Quaint with abundant character.
