The building dates from the year 1000 (the walls and foundations are from Byzantine times); according to legend it was here the pretty Desdemona first met the Moor Othello, at a party. The palace was rebuilt and given its present arrangement in the late sixteenth century by the Trevisan family, Venetian merchants since centuries. |
They lived in it until one of their last heirs married a scion of the Malipiero family, a Venetian Doge, who moved to the palace in the Santa Maria Formosa square, which acquired the name of the two families; in the early fifties the residence was turned into a hotel by the Tinacci family, which vaunts a long tradition in the hotel business and which invites guests to their noble residence, offering relax, comfort, service and atmosphere. |
