SIGHTSEEING

The Island of the Lagoon of Venice, Lazzaretto Vecchio:

Once the island was a hospice for pilgrims directed to the Holy Land, a refuge for plague-victims and a deposit of munitions.

Today in Lazzaretto Vecchio there is a centre for deserted dogs.

The island is not visitable, but is visible from the boat which during summer goes from San Marco to the Lido.
